ARCA ETICHETTE & CYCLE4GREEN: A PERFECT CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Despite significant technological progress and our ongoing drive for innovation in machinery and processes, there are still waste materials that are currently difficult or impossible to reduce. In our industry, these account on average for about 60% of the volume of purchased material (such as setup waste, printing errors, edge trimming, matrix waste, liner, etc.). Among these, the main component is the liner — the paper-based silicone backing of labels — which alone represents over 60% of total waste (38% of the initial roll’s volume).
A partnership for the environment
Environmentally conscious, Arca has established a partnership with Cycle4green, a Finnish company specializing in the recycling system for glassine paper (liner). Our production lines have been redesigned to collect and package this waste in accordance with specific instructions from our partner, who handles its pickup (on call) and transports it with their own vehicles to Austria. There, it is received by Lenzing Papier, a paper mill capable of revaluing this liner waste through recycling.
Tangible results
Every year, Cycle4green and Lenzing Papier issue a unique environmental certificate to partner companies, certifying the quantity of material collected and recycled, as well as the positive environmental impact of this virtuous process. In 2024, Arca recycled 26.3 tons of liner, equivalent to a saving of 50 tons in CO₂ emissions. A great result that we aim to improve in the current year!

100% GREEN ENERGY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES
Have you ever thought about the real cost of energy? Sure, the items on your utility bill are what usually come to mind first—but how much does it really cost to produce, deliver, and consume energy? The environmental impact is a factor we rarely consider. What are we willing to sacrifice to get the energy we need in our daily lives?
ONE STEP AT A TIME, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
At Arca Etichette, we believe sustainability is the cornerstone for building our future: living, moving, and working at the expense of the environment is no longer acceptable. Arca has always embraced these values, and today we reaffirm this commitment with a significant decision: our offices are now powered by clean energy.
Arca Etichette has entered into a green energy partnership with Lifegate, a company that offers innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
For several years now, Lifegate has enabled us to use 100% Green Energy from Italian Renewable Sources with Zero Impact.
This means reducing the polluting impact of the energy system and preserving environmental resources.
Shaping a climate-conscious future
To achieve this, we must unite our vision, our strength, and our ambition.

BEE MY FUTURE - A HOPE FOR BEES AND FOR THE WORLD
Once again this year, Arca Etichette stands alongside LifeGate in supporting the Italian project “Bee My Future.”
In practical terms, Arca has committed to the “adoption” of an entire beehive. Tens of thousands of our bees are now raised in an urban environment within the province of Milan, following the guiding principles of organic beekeeping. Along with the bee colony, our sponsorship also provides the beekeeper with all the necessary equipment to work safely and efficiently, ensuring the health and prosperity of our hardworking little friends.
“If the bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years left to live.”
(Albert Einstein)
A light at the end of the tunnel
The decline in the bee population has reached truly alarming levels. Just consider that in the United States alone, nearly 45% of the bees in managed hives vanished during the 2015–2016 period. After years of uncertainty, various associations and commissions now seem to have identified the culprits behind this catastrophe. Certain pesticides have been found to be severely harmful to bee health. For this reason, many countries around the world (including the entire European Union) have recently banned the sale and use of specific products. These discoveries and corrective actions are beginning to help bee populations recover, but the road ahead is still long. The shift in agricultural practices and institutional policies has only just begun.

ZEROCO2 AND ARCA ETICHETTE FOR MARINE REFORESTATION
Arca Etichette continues its commitment to the environment, this time by taking care of the seas.
Oceans are important CO2 storage sites. Each year they absorb about 30% of the carbon dioxide we produce, making an essential contribution to limiting global warming.
Even the sea has its forests inhabited by special types of plants and we, at Arca, have contributed to planting Posidonia in Sardinia together with ZeroCo2.
Posidonia oceanica is the most important marine plant for the coastal ecological balance of the Mediterranean Sea; it is considered among the most important marine ecosystems, both in terms of ecology and biodiversity, hosting about 20-25% of all species living in the Mediterranean.
Its leaves are essential for the process of chlorophyll photosynthesis, through which Posidonia, also known as “the lung of the Mediterranean”, produces oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide.
It is also crucial to coastal dynamics, as it helps prevent gradual sand loss, stabilizes sediments, protects shorelines from erosion by reinforcing the seabed, and reduces wave impact through the oscillating movement of its leaves.
To summarize, the main ecosystem services provided by Posidonia include:
A biodiversity hotspot
Carbon storage (Blue carbon)
Biomass production

IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO TALK ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION WITHOUT INCLUDING THE OCEAN
Today, Posidonia colonies are among the most threatened ecosystems on earth.
Available estimates indicate that between 13% and 50% of the areal extension has been lost and that the remaining grasslands have drastically decreased the density of shoots.
This loss is mainly due to anthropological environmental disturbances: trawling, indiscriminate anchoring on seagrass, over-exploitation of the seabed, physical changes, pollution, introduction of non-native species and climate change.
Given the criticality that affects us ever more closely, Arca Etichette has therefore married the ZeroCo2 initiative in partnership with Worldrise which has launched a first regeneration project of the Posidonia meadows in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia.
OUR FOREST WITH A GREEN HEART
Arca Etichette recognizes the environment as essential for humanity’s peaceful and livable presence on the planet.
On the occasion of World Environment Day 2021, Arca Etichette decided to further its journey toward more sustainable business practices by creating a dedicated forest: the “GREEN HEART.” We planted 114 trees—one for each year of life of the companies in the Arca Etichette S.p.A. Group.
The company continues to support tree planting, with a corporate forest that now includes 260 trees, contributing to CO₂ reduction, reforestation, biodiversity protection, and benefits for entire communities (as part of the “Arca loves you” project). The most recent planting took place in December 2023.

We support FAI – the Italian National Trust
This year, Arca Etichette Spa has decided to support FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (the National Trust for Italy) by joining the Corporate Golden Donor corporate membership program.
Standing alongside FAI, we aim to contribute to an important mission of protection that is also an ambitious cultural challenge: to make Italy a better place to live, work, and raise our children.
The landscape and cultural heritage safeguarded and promoted by FAI represent a globally unique asset and a vital resource in which to invest, in order to revive, develop, and enhance our beautiful country.
Thanks to the support of its many members—both private individuals and companies—FAI has, for nearly 50 years, protected and managed 70 properties throughout Italy. These include important historical, artistic, and natural sites that have been rescued from neglect, restored, preserved, and opened to the public.
Every day, FAI works to protect and make accessible to everyone the extraordinary treasures of art, nature, and culture scattered across the countryside, cities, and coastlines of our country. It also educates and raises public awareness about the importance of understanding, respecting, and caring for art and nature, and acts as a voice for civil society by actively monitoring and intervening across the territory.
Together with FAI, we strive for a more protected and more beautiful Italy.
